Residents
Residents have designated areas for parking.
They are clearly marked throughout campus and require different parking identification for different lots. If you are a student living on campus, visit the new interactive parking map or download the parking map to find the appropriate place to park. If you are a freshman, you will need to submit a vehicle petition form to request permission to park in the freshman parking lot located between Howe St. and Chapel Rd., west of the Prop Shop.
Commuters
Undergraduate and graduate commuters also have designated parking areas. They are clearly marked throughout campus and require parking identification on each vehicle. If you are a commuter, visit the new interactive parking map or download the parking map to find the appropriate place to park.

Faculty/Staff
Faculty and staff have designated areas for parking. They are clearly marked throughout campus and require parking identification on each vehicle. If you are a faculty or staff member, vistit the new interactive parking map or download the parking map to find the appropriate place to park.
Visitors
Visitors have designated areas for parking. They are clearly marked throughout campus and only require parking identification if after 5:00 p.m. If you are planning on visiting campus, take a look at the new interactive parking map to easily locate the areas where you are permited to park or you can download and print the parking map to find the appropriate places to park. If in doubt, contact Campus Safety 517.750.6911 to obtain a permit.
Campus visitors include such people as:
- Parents
- Grandparents
- Siblings
- Friends
- Non-SAU residents
Visitors not spending the night
If you are visiting campus for the day and not spending the night, there is no need to get a visitor’s permit if you park in the following lots (refer to map):
- Lot 8 – the north/back lot of the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church
- Lot 6 – the fieldhouse east/front lot
You may also park in any of the temporary parking spaces for the time prescribed on Second St. and College St.
*Do not park in a no-parking zone, fire lane, resident lot or faculty/staff lot.
Visitors spending the night
If you will be staying overnight, to avoid your vehicle from getting a ticket or even immobilized, you must get a visitor/temporary parking permit from one of the following:
During business hours
- The campus safety office – located in the lower level of the Kresge Student Center
- The student development office – located in the lower level of the Kresge Student Center
After business hours
- See the resident director of the building you are staying in.
- On-duty campus safety patrol officers are reachable at: 517.750.6911
- Make sure you know the following information when requesting a permit:
- License plate number
- Make, model, year and color of the vehicle.
Permits must be completely filled out and displayed face out and on your rearview mirror. The person who issues you the permit will assign you to a parking lot.
