A change is coming soon to Blackboard Elluminate. With the purchase of Wimba last year, Blackboard is transitioning Elluminate to a new system called Blackboard Collaborate.
Our Elluminate licensing model is changing which provides us a few new benefits, but also means that there will be some changes coming for how you use this tool, specifically, how you setup new sessions and invite students to participate. We will be communicating more about this in the coming weeks but here are a few of the changes you can expect to see:
- Instructors will have access to more seats per session, up to 100 at any given time regardless of other sessions that may be happening concurrently.
- Collaborate sessions are scheduled by individual licenses.
- Collaborate sessions are no longer integrated into Blackboard. Instructors will setup sessions through the Blackboard Collaborate website.
When it comes to using the tool itself, Collaborate is virtually identical to Elluminate. The layout and buttons are all the same, and sessions can still be recorded and archived for later use. Again, the changes will be primarily in how you setup new sessions and invite your students to them.
We are currently working on training materials that will be helpful to you in navigating these changes. We also will be offering an Elluminate session to discuss these changes soon.
