What is Student Success?

The mission of the Student Success Initiative is: “Connecting the right student to the right resource at the right time. Offering students the best possible opportunity to succeed at SAU.”

As a part of SAU’s 2011-2014 strategic plan a new initiative at SAU in the fall of 2011 will put into place a method to identify students needing help, gauge student’s openness to assistance, and guide the SAU team to connect at-risk students to the most appropriate resources in all three delivery systems, Campus, GPS and Online to give the student the best possible opportunity to succeed at SAU.

How am I involved?

As a SAU employee, whether our role is in Academic Student Connections, Technology Services, Maintenance or as a faculty member, we are involved in doing all we can to encourage the success of every student. The new Student Success Initiative has been created to bring awareness to the need of connecting students to the resources SAU already offers. Thereby, SAU will better assist students struggling with the common obstacles that may stand in their path towards success. We are asking every SAU employee to take action when they become aware of a student who is struggling to achieve their goals at SAU. Initiating an alert is simple and will take only a few minutes.

How do I use it?

Step 1: Log into MYSAU portal at: https//mysau.arbor.edu

Step 2: Click on Submit Student Alert Form located in the bottom left hand navigation

Step 3: Search for the student’s name and click on add a student.

Step 4: Complete the Student Alert Form

Step 5: Submit the form

The form will be sent to the Appropriate Student Success Director for assignment of follow up.

Who do I contact with questions?

Student Success is organized by student delivery system. To contact the correct representative, determine whether the student is enrolled through Main Campus Undergraduate, GPS Undergraduate, GPS Graduate or Online delivery system:

Main Campus Undergraduate

Email: Todd.Marshall@arbor.edu

Phone: x1584

What is worthy of an alert?

During your normal day to day tasks if you become aware that a student is struggling and you are not confident they are accessing the resources available to them, please initiate an alert. It is our hope as a concerned member of the SAU community, that you have already encouraged the student and given them as much direction as you are able.

If you deem a situation with a student is an emergency, you should call 911 immediately. Otherwise, follow the protocol for the different delivery systems to report an immediate student crisis.

Who will be assigned for follow-up with students?

Advisers, faculty and staff with relationships with students and student support services.
