Borrowing Library Materials

SAU personnel and students must present their SAU I.D. card at the Circulation Desk to check-out materials. Persons from the community who have SAU Library Cards must also present their SAU Library Card when checking-out materials.
Persons from the community may be issued a SAU Library card by bringing their driver’s license (or other form of I.D. containing their current address) to the Circulation Desk and completing a new library user form.
A Michi-Card sticker attached to the patron’s driver’s license or other I.D. may also be used to borrow materials.
The loan period for materials depends on the type of material and the status of the user. See “Loan Periods” section below.

Renewals Holds, Recalls, and Fines

Renewals can be made in person at the Circulation Desk, by phone (517) 750-6742 or (517) 750-6442, or online at https://dromedary.arbor.edu/patroninfo/. Renewal privileges are extended unless another patron has placed a hold on the item. An electronic renewal is subject to White Library circulation policies.

A hold enables a patron to reserve the next use of an item currently in circulation. When several patrons place a hold on the same item a queue based upon the request date is established. A patron will be notified when the item becomes available. Holds can be placed in person at the Circulation Desk, by phone, or electronically.

The library reserves the right to recall materials that are in circulation. Various circumstances, especially when an item has been renewed and numerous patrons place a hold on it, will warrant a recall of the item.

Patrons are responsible for returning all materials on time and in good condition. The library sends four written notices. The fourth notice is a bill for the replacement cost, plus a processing fee and billing charge. Library privileges are revoked until the issue is resolved. If the item is returned after the fourth notice all fees are waived except for the $5.00 billing charge.
