  • BBC News Country Profiles – Full profiles provide an instant guide to history, politics and economic background of countries and territories, and background on key institutions. Also includes audio and video clips from BBC archives.
  • CIA World Fact Book – The World Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 266 world entities.
  • Ethnologue: Languages of the World – This is a comprehensive reference work cataloging all of the world’s known living languages. Since 1951, the Ethnologue has been an active research project involving hundreds of linguists and other researchers around the world. It is widely regarded to be the most comprehensive source of information of its kind.
  • Gallica – Digital library of French and francophone culture maintained by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Contains electronic texts, images, maps, animation, and sound files of French and other publications in history, literature, science, philosophy, law, economics, and political science. Almost all classic works of French literature are represented.
  • Literatura (cervantes.es) – Includes biographies, criticism, digital collections, and more.
  • Pew Global Attitudes Project – The Pew Global Attitudes Project is a series of worldwide public opinion surveys that encompasses a broad array of subjects ranging from people’s assessments of their own lives to their views about the current state of the world and important issues of the day. More than 200,000 interviews in 57 countries have been conducted as part of the project’s work.
  • Voice of the Shuttle: Spanish and Portuguese – Selection of literary sites: general resources, sections on specific writers.
  • World Public Opinion – An international collaborative project whose aim is to give voice to public opinion around the world on international issues. As the world becomes increasingly integrated, problems have become increasingly global, pointing to a greater need for understanding between nations and for elucidating global norms.
