MCOM students, Tanja Morgan, Cheryl Hampton, Shanise Davenport, and Ellen Young, in collaboration with several MCOM faculty members, have written an article called “Sacred Symbols with a Secular Beat? A Content Analysis of Religious and Sexual Imagery in Modern Rock, Hip-Hop, Christian, and Country Music Videos,” which has been chosen for publication by the Journal of Pop Culture and Religion.
This peer-review article began as a final research project in the graduate Communication Research Methods course. It was then prepared for presentation at the Religious Communication Association pre-conference meeting in 2008, and subsequently revised for submission as an article. The lead authors on this paper are four MCOM students: Tanja Morgan, Cheryl Hampton, Shanise A. Davenport, and Ellen Young. These MCOM students worked closely with three faculty co-authors: Dr. Diane Badzinski-Proctor (Chair, Department of Communication, Colorado Christian University), Dr. Kathy Richardson (Professor of Communication, Berry College, Mount Berry, Georgia), and MCOM professor Dr. Robert H. Woods Jr.
