The Korean-born violinist Dr. Ji Hyun Kim’s wide-ranging career has encompassed work as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and educator.

As an acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, Dr. Kim has made numerous media appearances worldwide and performed in major cities of South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, Europe, and the United States. Her live performances have been featured on NZ TV3 National News, Australia’s ABC Classic FM and SBS Korean Radio, JTV Michigan, and WKAR PBS Broadcast. The outstanding musicality and alluring stage presence of Kim’s playing have been recognized through her success in both national and international competitions hosted by the Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Foundation, Yamaha Music Society, Chamber Music New Zealand, Sydney Eisteddfod Foundation, and International Grieg Society.Ji Hyun Kim Bio pic2

As a dedicated educator with great interest in cultivating more positive and intimate performer-audience relationship, she has presented instrumental demonstrations and workshops to various audiences ranging from pre-school children to college level students and adults. Dr. Kim has taken the position as orchestral string coach and chamber music instructor of numerous schools and orchestras including Sydney Conservatorium High School, Jackson Youth Symphony, and MSU Concert Symphony Orchestras. She also has served on the juries for various auditions and competitions such as the Lansing Symphony’s Youth Competition and Homeschool Association Solo and Ensemble Festival.

Dr. Kim is an assistant professor of violin and viola at Spring Arbor University and holds the artist-teacher in residence position with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. Since 2011, she has also been serving as a member of the Artistic Advisory Committee and the acting assistant concertmaster of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. Kim spends her summers at the MASTA Summer String Camp and Jackson Symphony Summer Music Camp as the head string faculty.
