Andrew Sprung

Andrew Sprung is principal clarinetist of the Jackson (Michigan) Symphony Orchestra, second clarinetist of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra (Traverse City, Michigan), and adjunct instructor of clarinet at Spring Arbor University and Hillsdale College.Andrew Sprung Bio Pic

He has performed extensively in the Midwest with ensembles such as the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Philharmonic, Central Iowa Symphony, and Ames (Iowa) Chamber Artists.

As a soloist, Sprung has performed concertos with the Livingston Symphony Orchestra (Brighton, Michigan), Mason City (Iowa) Municipal Band, Bowling Green State University Wind Symphony, and Iowa State University Symphony Orchestra. His performing career has taken him to Carnegie Hall, Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, and venues throughout Europe.

In addition to his university positions, Sprung teaches private lessons, master classes, and sectionals throughout southern Michigan. He has held teaching appointments at Bowling Green State University, Plymouth-Canton Educational Park, South Lyon High School, Novi Community Schools, and Anthony Wayne Local Schools (Whitehouse, Ohio).

Sprung’s articles have been published in The Clarinet, the official journal of the International Clarinet Association, and translated into Dutch for publication in The Netherlands. He holds a Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Iowa State University.
