Rutherfordium is named after Ernest Rutherford, the discoverer of the atomic nucleus. Rutherford was once quoted as saying “All of science is physics. The rest is just stamp collecting”. Perhaps it is poetic justice that Rutherford won a Nobel Prize in CHEMISTRY!
